The Team Awareness Kit (TAK) (known as the Tactical Assault Kit in the Department of Defense) is an application that offers a collaborative geospatial solution for real-time tracking of teams, sensor information, videos, chat, and more.
iTAK supports industry standards for icons, sensor information, and communication, making it suitable for both Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial sector use. Users can either pre-load data into the app or download it from the network via TAK Server when available.
iTAK offers a wide range of capabilities, including online and offline mapping with support for various formats, such as Blue force / team tracking (BFT), collaborative mapping with the ability to import and display KML, KMZ, and GeoPDF overlays. Users can mark and share locations with photos, engage in chat and file sharing, and even live stream videos with the option to share video links.
Other useful features include a spotted map to mark and share multiple locations, a digital pointer for quick marking and sharing of items on the map, navigation capabilities for walking/hiking, driving, flying, and air-ground coordination; as well as range and bearing measurement tools. The app also offers team emergency beacons, customizable toolbar options, a 3D perspective view, and full compatibility with the TAK ecosystem (ATAK, TAK Server, WinTAK).
iTAK is not just limited to military applications; it has proven useful for law enforcement agencies, first responders, as well as activities such as hunting, fishing, ornithology, and wildlife site survey.
